Dallas: Chama Press, 1991. 1st edition. 36 pages. Hardcover book bound in quarter leather with decorative boards in publisher’s slipcase. Book and slipcase are FINE. SIGNED by Graves.
Although called a “self-portrait”, this memoir is not so much about Graves as it is about people in his past, all of whom were, one way or another, associated with birds and contributed to the writer’s knowledge of them. Graves claimed no special expertise as ornithologist or bird watcher but exhibits a lot of knowledge about birds, a knowledge he began accumulating as a child. Graves writes beautifully and this book is beautifully designed and crafted.
