From 1860 to 1933, Trost designed hundreds of buildings of all kinds in New Mexico, Arizona and extreme West Texas, an area he called “arid America”. Among the many buildings he designed, he may be best known for the El Paisano Hotel in Marfa, Texas where Elizabeth Taylor, James Dean and Rock Hudson stayed while filming the movie, “Giant”.
