Mrs. Turner wrote the book “to preserve cherished memories of my forty years on These High Plains.” In it, there is much about Amarillo and the wider Panhandle area generally, including the open range, cattlemen such as Charles Goodnight and John Adair, and Dodge City. Railroads (the author was married to a pioneer official of the Santa Fe Railway Company), the discovery of oil in West Texas, and other topics of historical significance such as Old Tascosa, Billy the Kid, Wyatt Earp, and Bat Masterson.

 

Amarillo: privately printed, 1941. 1st edition. 94 pages. Hardcover book with gilt lettering and a colored paper label on the front cover. The book, lettering and colored label are all in FINE condition. No dustjacket, as issued. Only 150 books were printed.
