Described as a biographical novel, All Honest Men is based on the true-life story of J. Willis Newton who with his brothers, Joe, Jess and Dock, who claimed to have robbed eighty-seven banks and six trains. Called “a classic work” and “a splendid work”, this book has also been described as “a romantic and often funny outlaw tale”. Claude Stanish was a Life Magazine correspondent. His daughter, Michele, wrote for newspapers in Austin and San Antonio. In 1973, Claude met and befriended Willis and Joe Newton. Willis died in 1979 at age 90. Joe died in 1989 at age 88.
