The Aztec Club of 1847 was founded in Mexico City at the time the American Army occupied that capital during the Mexican War. The original members numbered one hundred sixty, including many whose fame would come later as leaders of the opposing armies in the U.S. Civil War. In many respects this book is their story, a story of young men bonded by the shared dangers and hardships of war against a common enemy, followed by the later experience of each becoming the enemy of another, and the subsequent reunification after the Civil War. Imagine President U.S. Grant and 30+ former general officers of the Union and Confederate armies travelling together by rail car renewing bonds of friendship. It happened. The Aztec Club is unique. Also of note: included in this single volume are maps, documents, writings and artwork about the Mexican War brought together in a single volume for the first time. It also contains the most complete list ever produced of Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Revenue Marine officers who served in the Mexican War.
