The Train to Crystal City

Description Additional info Product reviews

In this book, Russell sheds light on a dark, sometimes overlooked chapter in American history by writing about the only U.S. family internment camp during WWII.  From 1942 to 1948, the 290-acre facility held thousands of Japanese, German, and Italian immigrants and their children, many of whom were U.S. citizens and innocent of everything except being Japanese, German or Italian. Internees were sent to Axis-controlled countries in exchange for American prisoners only to later face challenging journeys back to the U.S. to resume and rebuild their lives.
