The story of a relentless pursuit of two sisters who had been taken captive by Indians. Le May was a student of frontier history and Indian lore and had a good understanding of the story he always wanted to write.  In fact, he wrote The Searchers and submitted it to Harper & Bros with a letter in which he stated he “decided to write a story of my own, and see if I could get it the way I wanted it; because I had a story I wanted to tell…Here it is, the best I can do.”  It is a story of people who had a special kind of courage.  Widely considered a masterpiece and praised by critics for its artistry and emotional charge, Adapted into a movie by the same name starring John Wayne.

Hardcover with dustjacket. Book is VERY GOOD with wear to all edges of the boards and to the corners, the top and bottom of the spine are nudged, some staining to the rear free endpaper and age-toning to the rear pastedown.  The dustjacket is GOOD with chipping, wrinkling and tearing at the edges, rubbing, particularly along the external hinges and inside flap folds, age-toning, and some faint staining (it’s better than this description makes it sound).
