The author, a newspaper reporter, conducted some first-rate investigative journalism.  It investigated the corruption of the San Jacinto County, Texas Sheriff's Office under former Sheriff Humpy Parker. The book exposed a pattern of intimidation and abuse of power. It led directly to the removal of Sheriff Humphrey from office.
