Includes three articles written by Smithers: (1) "Natures Pharmacy and the Curandros"; (2) "Border Trading Posts”; and, (3) “Bandit Raids In The Big Bend Country". In the Foreword, Dobie related a conversation he had with Bryan Wildenthal (a former President of Sul Ross State College) during which Wildenthal expressed his opinion that Smithers was “an outstanding authority on the early history of the areas bordering both sides of the Rio Grande.”
