“Old Town” Indianola, Cattle Folks in Texas

Description Additional info Product reviews

Indianola, located in Calhoun County, was an important Texas port, second only to Galveston. Much—perhaps most—German immigration to Texas came through Indianola. For thirty years, the forts in Western Texas were supplied through Indianola. And The world's first shipment of mechanically refrigerated beef was shipped to New Orleans from Indianola in 1869. Thereafter railroad services began and Indianola soon reached the high point of its posterity in 1875 when it was hit by a hurricane. The town rebuilt but was almost wiped out by a second hurricane in 1886 The author of this book lived on one of the cattle ranches near Indianola. She called the area “a paradise of cattle ranches”.

San Antonio: Standard Printing Company, 1952. 1st edition. 55 pages. Hardcover book. The cloth covering the boards is wavy and does not lay evenly. The heel of the spine and one corner is bumped. Overall the condition is VERY GOOD. Or better. No dustjacket.
