John Green and his Forty Years in Houston

Description Additional info Product reviews

Green was born in Tuskegee, Alabama on January 26, 1856 to a slave-owing father. He remembered the war years.   He referred to himself as a “link between the ‘The Old’ and ‘The New South’. During his life, Green was a farmer, railroad man, school teacher, local preacher, pastor, evangelist, and pastor again.   He lived 41 years in Houston and in this book, he gives an excellent first-hand look at life in the south during the last half of the 19th century and early 20th century. Green died in 1933.

Houston: Dealy-Adey-Elgin Co., 1928. 1st edition. 176 pages. Hardcover book with dustjacket. Minor wear to the boards and some rubbing to the lettering on the spine but overall the book is in VERY GOOD condition. The dustjacket has some minor chipping and tearing at the edges and to the folds between the panels and inside flaps, one large wrinkle to the top edge of the rear panel (now flattened under mylar) and a closed approximate 1 inch tear along the fold of the rear inside flap beginning at the top edge. Minor soiling. Overall, the dustjacket is VERY GOOD. This book and dustjacket appear to be and, in fact, are in great condition, notwithstanding the various specific condition details cited.
