Hunter’s Tracks

Description Additional info Product reviews

Hunter moved from his native Scotland to British East Africa in 1908 where he spent 15 years as a professional hunter serving maharajahs, millionaires and visiting sportsmen. During his lifetime, he shot more than 1400 elephants. And as part of responsibilities assigned him, he is said to have killed more rhinoceros than any other man. It should be noted the responsibilities with which he was charged included clearing Kenyan land for settlement. This book relates the story of Hunter’s efforts to “capture the shady headman of a gang of ivory poachers and smugglers.” Interwoven is the tale of a maharaja’s grand safari, one of East Africa’s most grandiose. Hunter’s book is one of the best ever on East African hunting, the big game sought and the eccentric characters seeking it.

Safari Press, 1999. 1st Safari Press edition (originally published in 1957). 240 pages. Hardcover book with dustjacket, both in FINE condition.
