Goodbye to a River

Description Additional info Product reviews

A beautiful edition of a Texas classic that includes a great fold out map by Barbara Whitehead.  This was one of the Book Club’s first publications following a 50-year publishing hiatus.  A.C. Greene designated Goodbye to a River one of the fifty best Texas books.  In fact, he called it “the finest piece of Texas writing ever done".  This is a must-read for all Texans.  It narrates a 3-week canoe trip down the Brazos River to say “goodbye” to the river after Graves learned that it would soon be dammed.  It recounts Graves’ encounters, observations, and reflections that occurred during his 1959 canoe trip; a trip that began just below present-day Possum Kingdom Lake.

[Austin]  The Book Club of Texas, 1989. 1st thus. 237 pages.  Hardcover with marbled paper over boards and a cloth back strip. No dustjacket was issued other than the clear acetate which is present. The book and acetate wrapper are both in FINE condition.  Limited to 550 copies. SIGNED by Graves at the end of the new Preface, prepared specifically for this edition.
