Early Days in Texas, A Trip to Hell and Heaven

Description Additional info Product reviews

The author was, at times, a peace officer and, at other times, a fugitive. Born in Ohio, McIntire once worked for J.C. Loving. McIntire makes several claims in this book, including that he once ran Wyatt Earp and Mysterious Dave Mathers out of Mobeetie, Texas; that he had an association with Fort Worth lawman Jim Courtright; and, perhaps most interesting, that he had a near-death experience when he was 51 and suffering from smallpox. He said he was pronounced dead and thereafter shown Hell and Heaven, both of which he describes in some detail. He returned to earth to enlighten people about the afterlife, a mission “ordered by God”. Included by Ramon Adams in THE ADAMS ONE-FIFTY, the books on Western Outlaws and Lawmen Adams considered “most important”.

Kansas City: McIntire Publishing Company, 1902. 1st edition. 229 pages. Hardcover in custom clamshell. There are two prior owners’ names written on the front free endpaper and minor rubbing to one corner and the board edges; otherwise the book is FINE, as is the clamshell.
