Noted Hertzog collector Al Lowman wrote this was "regarded by many as the greatest of all the Lea-Hertzog collaborations." This work provides portraits of twelve strong men who passed through El Paso del Norte, each of whom might be considered symbolic of the character required to make possible El Paso, the city at the Pass of the North.

Book has some foxing to the pastedowns and endpapers. Dustjacket is all present and under mylar; however, the front panel and front inside flap is separated from, and held together with, the rest of the dustjacket by the mylar covering. There is some minor spotting, chipping at the edges and age toning. Book is better than VERY GOOD. Dustjacket is GOOD. There is a brief gift inscription SIGNED by Hertzog on the last printed page where production specifics are presented.
