Clarendon, Texas: Clarendon Press, 1969. Presumed 1st edition. 64 pages. Hardcover without dustjacket. FINE condition.

“Mattie” Ellis was the wife of George F. Ellis, long-time manager of the famed Bell Ranch located in Northeast New Mexico. Named for a bell-shaped mountain located on ranch lands, the Bell is known for the quality of the beef cattle produced under Ellis’ management. The beauty and unique qualities of the Bell has attracted many notable artists and it has served as inspiration for several books, including this book of poetry in which Mattie expresses thoughts and sentiments in verse, one of which begins: “caught in a dream are we who live here—“.
