The “raw frontier” beginning South of Corpus Christ to North of Copano Bay and West of the Colorado River was the site of several battles during the Texas Revolution including the Battle of Goliad as well as others. The dangers continued after the revolution and a sense of community developed as people banded together to collectively face the dangers and the challenges they presented. Guthrie as historian followed in the footsteps of Hobart Huson and Paul Boethel and became the leading researcher on the Texas Coastal Bend. He interviewed descendants of the people who first came and settled the area. The stories collected as passed down from one generation to the next are both unique and intriguing.
