Austin: Eakin Press, 1994. 1st edition. 159 pages. Hardcover in dustjacket. Both FINE.
This book publicly debuts Huson’s previously unpublished manuscript “Two Sea-Captains Johnson and Some of Their Friends” as well as the previously published accounts of El Copano and St. Mary’s of Aransas, both long-gone ports on Texas’ Coastal Bend. Huson was one of Texas’ finest historians, focusing upon the region through which the Spanish came to explore and settle Texas, the point of arrival for the empresario families, and the gateway for the armies of Santa Anna and Ugartechea. About Huson, J. Frank Dobie wrote: “Huson’s so-called local histories are far better state histories than are most of the books that purport to be Texas histories.”
